    To start, use we recommend using this cleanser every other day—and if your skin is dry, that might be enough! As skin acclimates, you can build up to daily use if you want. But we still recommend alternating with a gentle daily cleanser chosen for your skin type's needs. If your skin feels sensitive or dried out, use it less frequently.

  • Can I use this cleanser if I don't have acne?

    Yes! The exfoliating acids in our Azelaic Acid BHA/AHA Cleanser are also great if you have any hyperpigmentation or dark spots, uneven skin tone, overall dullness, visible pores, or end of day shine. You can still use it if you don't have any of those concerns, but you might prefer one of our Barrier+ cleansers, too.

  • Can I use this cleanser on my body?

    Yes! Our Azelaic Acid BHA/AHA Cleanser is safe to use on both your face and your body.

  • Is this cleanser safe for pre-teens/teens?

    While our Azelaic Acid BHA/AHA Cleanser was tested for safety and efficacy on adults, it should be safe for both teens and pre-teens. We always recommend checking with the child's doctor before starting any new skincare regimen.

"Simply the best! I keep praying SF will make this same cleanser in a non-acid form. It’s almost a mix of a cream cleanser and a gel/foaming. It lathers nice, but what I love is it rinses off so nice. It isn’t a struggle to get this film off your skin that so many have. It’s not stripping-but does leave your face clean feeling. Love this cleanser 😍 (acne +). Is it safe for daily AM & PM use? What about to use with retinol in pm? Specifically; I use the Algenist Elevate retinol (and religiously use SPF every morning). Ive just recently started (in the last 2-3 weeks) the retinization process and am still only using it at the most 2x/week, but it completely depends on my skin condition whether I'll use it or pass on it (the retinol). Ive got oily skin and am very acne prone, if that helps with context. Any feedback would be hugely appreciated!

I started using this product about a week ago and I've noticed redness in some areas of my face as well as dry spots. I've noticed my acne getting better in some spots, but worse in others. Is this normal reactions to using the product or is it something I should be concerned about?

Does the Acne + Azelaic acid AHA/BHA cleanser have the same formula as the Acne +2% BHA cleanser? ie. the same % of each active.
Hi Liz, Thank you for reaching out. Due to regulatory requirements in Canada, the formula is almost identical but did have to have an adjustment in the % of active BHA's. This truly does not change the efficacy and the clinical results show this. We hope this helps!
